Staff Member of the Year Award

AWARD CRITERIA

The Staff Member of the Year Award Program recognizes Edinboro University staff members who demonstrate outstanding service to the University, our students and our neighboring communities. Although the University recognizes the contributions of the many University employees who serve the community in very important ways, nominees for the Staff Member of the Year Award must be current, non-faculty, permanent employees of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania who are in good standing and have passed the initial probationary period and have served Edinboro University for at least a total of 12 months.

University faculty, staff, students, Trustees, alumni and retired faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the Staff Member of the Year no later than March 3, 2008. Nominations should highlight accomplishments, contributions and achievements that have occurred during the most recent calendar year. Suggested areas of importance include service to students, service to the University, community/volunteer service, or any combination of these areas. Reference to the employee's history of service and achievement may be included to lend additional support to the nomination. Specific examples will reinforce and strengthen the nomination.

Previous Staff Member of the Year Award recipients are not eligible for the award.


NOMINATION FORM


Purpose - The purpose of the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Staff Member of the Year Award Program is to reinforce the concept of community through recognition of outstanding performance and service to students, the University and the community. This program was developed with regard to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Management Directive #505.23 (Amended) "Employee Recognition Program."

Eligibility - All non-faculty, permanent employees of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania who have passed the initial probationary period and have served Edinboro University for at least a total of twelve months are eligible to be nominated. Current Staff Member of the Year Award committee members and former award recipients are not eligible for the award.

Selection Criteria - Employees recognized under this program shall have made a significant contribution or realized an outstanding achievement during the award year in the area(s) of student service, community/volunteer service, University service or any combination of these areas. Consideration will be given to employees who demonstrate:

  3. Positive attitude
  4. Personalized/caring approach
  5. Commitment to quality
  6. Efficiency
  7. Expertise
  8. Efforts of a significant impact and scope

Process - Nominations may be submitted by University faculty, staff, students, Trustees, alumni and retired faculty and staff. Nominations will be solicited each year by the President of the University and will be reviewed by a representative committee appointed by the President. A sample nomination form is attached.

Nominations will be submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Faculty Relations. The nominator's name can be kept confidential if desired. The convener of the nomination review committee will submit the names of the top three finalists, unranked, to the President for review and consideration. The President will select the Staff Member of the Year from the pool of finalists. With the permission of the nominator, all nominations may be shared with the nominees after the awards process is complete each year as an added form of employee recognition.

Implementation - All University faculty and staff, Trustees, student organization presidents, retired faculty and staff, and members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors will receive an informational communication regarding the Staff Member of the Year Award Program as soon as it is feasible at the start of each Spring semester. In addition, the program will be announced and publicized via the Spectator, Thistle Post newsletter, and the University web page. Extra information packets, including nomination forms, will be available at the Office of Human Resources and Faculty Relations, Baron-Forness Library and the Student Center Information Desk. This information will also be posted on bulletin boards campus-wide.

Recognition - The Staff Member of the Year will receive the following accolades:

  • Plaque with name and appropriate message as determined by the President
  • Name placed on a perpetual plaque to be displayed prominently on campus
  • 8x10 photograph to be displayed with perpetual plaque during year of recognition
  • Recognition at the Spring Convocation and Spring Commencement programs
  • Reserved parking place for year of recognition
  • One-year membership to the Campus Recreation Center
  • Coverage, as possible, in local and regional newspapers and the Thistle Post newsletter.

Finalists will be recognized at the Spring Convocation and Spring Commencement programs and will receive a Presidential Certificate.
