Crawford Gymnasium

Crawford Gymnasium

Crawford Center for Health and Physical Education and Disability Resources

Crawford Gymnasium was originally constructed in 1940 and dedicated to Clarence C. Crawford, the institution's ninth president, in 1942 shortly after his death. Converted to electric heat in 1965, the building was the sole campus gymnasium facility for 30 years until completion of McComb Fieldhouse in 1970.

Designed to promote interaction among all students, the Crawford Center for Health and Physical Education and Disability Resources provides a central location for services, programs, adaptive sports, and recreation, as well as facilities for physical education classes and a wide variety of athletic and leisure activities.

The refurbished Crawford gymnasium is shared by the general student body, by student-athletes with disabilities, and by the intercollegiate wheelchair basketball team. Future expanded intercollegiate programs for students with disabilities will also use this facility. The complex includes an adaptive skills center, an assistive technology center, a tactile laboratory, a transitional apartment, a testing facility, a recreation facility, and a conference room.
