This course is intended to bring about an understand-
ing of the role of the peer counselor and to provide for
the development of the skills necessary to perform in
that role. The student will learn basic concepts and
skills necessary for service as a helper in a helping
relationship, will gain a basic understanding of some
general counseling theories, will learn about the
nature of learning, will gain knowledge concerning
basic standardized tests, and will examine the role of
the peer counselor.

LEADERSHIP AND HELPING
SKILLS FOR COLLEGE
RESIDENT ASSISTANTS

This course is designed for resident assistants and
potential resident assistants. The course focuses on
the role of the RA in facilitating the personal growth
of residence hall students. Emphasis will be on devel-
oping helping skills through student involvement in
role playing, small group activities, and awareness
exercises.

Deals with the nature of the learning process with an
emphasis on the principles of psychology as they
apply to the problems of learning and teaching.

MULTIMEDIA IN EDUCATION

This course explores the history of multimedia and
the application and production of multimedia in its
present day format. Emphasis will be placed on
enabling the student to interact with many types of
media via the computer, such as text, graphics, pho-
tos, sounds, animation and video. Techniques for the
active integration of present day multimedia plat-
forms such as CD-ROM, presentation software, the
Internet, and commercial packages with instructional
curriculum will be demonstrated.

This course supplies the necessary background and
procedures to teachers and those preparing for careers
in education to deal effectively with child abuse and
where possible to prevent it through the activities of
educators and other professionals. It emphasizes the
necessity for school involvement and available pro-
tective services, as well as proposed preventive meas-
ures.

trends in educating our school age population, local,

ative/collaborative strategies to develop effective
teaching techniques. It explores characteristics of
cooperative/collaborative learning and application of

tion.

This course assists educators in adapting their teach-
ing styles to diverse student learning styles. It enables
teachers to organize and administer programs based
on learning styles, develop instructional resources,
design specific individual and whole class strategies,
and redesign traditional classrooms.

THE URBAN SCHOOL AND
COMMUNITY

This course provides classroom experience and
insight into the theories of teaching methods that are
used in teaching the inner city elementary and sec-
ondary child. It offers additional experiences in plan-
ning and implementing teaching strategies and spe-
cial problems that are encountered in an inner city
classroom setting. Class sessions involve the analysis
of selected taped classroom situations from a variety
of inner city classrooms.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
AND CONTROL

This course acquaints upper-level education majors
with behavioral and humanistic theories of classroom
management, the elements which create a positive
learning atmosphere, and the most recent research on
classroom organization and student motivation, with
a practical emphasis on case studies and classroom
simulations. The class addresses problem solving, the
ethical dimension of classroom management, conflict
resolution, and management issues as they relate to
urban, suburban and rural schools. Students with
credit in EDUC386 may not enroll in EDUC586.

This introductory course constitutes a general survey
of the history and of the facts, principles, and meth-
ods employed in the study of human behavior. It
emphasizes the uses of the scientific method in the
study of human behavior. This course is approved for
General Education Core 4.
PSYC225
PSYCHOLOGICAL STATISTICS
3 sem. hrs.
An introduction to the basic concepts and applica-
tions of statistics in the behavioral science with
emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of exper-
imental data. Topics include measures of central ten-
dency and variation; probability and normal distribu-
tion; correlation; estimation; tests of significance;
simple analysis of variance. Prerequisites: PSYC101
and MATH104 with a "C" or better.

EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
3 sem. hrs.
This course introduces laboratory research methods
in psychology. It covers all aspects of the research
enterprise, including the formulation of research
hypothesis, the mechanics of running experiments,
statistical analysis, and the preparation of research
reports using computers. It also covers both simple
experimental designs and factorial designs.
Prerequisites: PSYC225 and ENGL102 with a "C"
or better. This course is approved for General
Education Computer Competency.

This course presents the various views of the learning
process developed by classical and contemporary the-
orists. It emphases the application of the knowledge

ADJUSTMENT

This course is aimed at giving students a better under-
standing of the processes they use in coping with
stresses of daily living. It also deals with development
of the psychologically healthy person and the effects
of maladjustment. There is a brief introduction to the
neuroses and psychoses. Prerequisite: PSYC101.

PSYCHOLOGY OF HUMAN
SEXUALITY

This course intends to help each student identify and
understand the psychological basis for his/her sexual
motivation and behavior. In addition, it seeks to
develop responsible attitudes in an individual's search
for personal sexual fulfillment in his/her understand-
ing of interpersonal relationships. Prerequisite:
