This course presents basic aquatic skills appropriate
for non-swimmers and beginning swimmers. This
course is approved for General Education Health

AQUATICS II (INTERMEDIATE
SWIMMING)
1 sem. hr.
For students who have mastered basic strokes, this
course presents stroke mechanics, fitness techniques,
and safety and survival skills procedures.

AQUATICS III (LIFEGUARDING)
1 sem. hr.
This course presents skill techniques and knowledge
for the prevention of aquatic accidents, and assistance
techniques for victims. Demonstrated lifeguarding
techniques and related swimming competence lead to
the ARC Lifeguarding Certificate.

BADMINTON I
1 sem. hr.
This course presents fundamental techniques, strate-
gy, and rules of the game of badminton. Students play
competitively in class for the purpose of self-evalua-
tion in skill development and physical fitness.

BOWLING I (BEGINNING)
1 sem. hr.
This course teaches the basic skills of bowling to
enable beginners to develop or maintain an interest
and a satisfactory degree of success.

GOLF
1 sem. hr.
This course teaches beginning golf skills of grip,
stance, swing, and strategy, and introduces equip-
ment, course lay-out, terminology, and etiquette.

PHYSICAL FITNESS
1 sem. hr.
This course will focus on three facets of physical fit-
ness: flexibility, muscular strength and cardiorespira-
tory endurance. Weight control will also be discussed
with possible programming if an individual need aris-
es. Running, weight training and calisthenics will be
the predominant activities. This course is approved
for General Education Health and Physical
Education 2.

TENNIS
1 sem. hr.
This course develops and improves skills, teaches the
rules, and involves actual playing of tennis. Students
must provide their own equipment. This course is
approved for General Education Health and
Physical Education 2.

WEIGHT TRAINING
1 sem. hr.
This course focuses on strength and fitness, two main
facets of weight training, and emphasizes the practi-
cal use of weights. Students build weight training
programs based on their personal needs. This course
is approved for General Education Health and
Physical Education 2.

AEROBIC EXERCISE
1 sem. hr.
This course teaches students to develop personal aer-
obic conditioning programs. It stresses diet, weight
control, and stress reduction as they relate to aerobic
conditioning. This course is approved for General

This course helps students attain a satisfactory emo-
tional and social adjustment, maintain his/her own
health, and cooperate in solving community health
problems. Also, it prepares students for the responsi-

SEXUALITY

This course presents the biological, sociological, psy-
chological, moral, and legal overview of human sex-
uality. This course assists students with the theoretical
and the practical application of human sexuality from
a perspective of past, present and future eras. This

CONTEMPORARY READINGS IN
HEALTH

This course introduces contemporary health issues
which impact the quality of life. Critical thinking and
analysis skills prepare students to differentiate
between information and misinformation and misin-
formation in regard to current health issues. This

and Physical Education 1.

CONSUMER HEALTH
2 sem. hrs.
This course presents the facts and fallacies of the
health marketplace. It examines personal health relat-
ed decisions, using valid criteria for selecting health
services and products.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL
CONDITIONING
2 sem. hrs.
This course explores physical fitness, exercise, and
conditioning. Physically demanding exercises and
other classroom/lab experiences enable students to
assess their physical fitness status and understand
physical overload and the effect of conditioning. This
course is approved for General Education Health
and Physical Education 1.

WELLNESS/BICYCLING
3 sem. hrs.
This course teaches students to improve and maintain
their wellness. It provides content in important well-
ness areas as well as the opportunity to improve skill
and fitness through cycling. Participants must provide
their own bicycle and helmet. This course replaces all
HPE general education courses from HPE052-
HPE110. This course is approved for General
Education Health and Physical Education.
HPE112
WOMEN'S WELLNESS/WEIGHT
TRAINING AND AEROBICS
3 sem. hrs.
This course teaches students to develop personal aer-
obic programs that emphasize cardiorespiratory
endurance, various types of aerobic programs for
women, as well as considerations for weight control,
nutrition, warm-up, and principles of flexibility. It
also introduces weight training techniques that identi-
fy physiological considerations, lifting and spotting
fundamentals, selective and arrangement of exercises
and manipulating training leads, repetitions, and sets.
This course replaces all HPE general education cours-
es from HPE052-HPE110. This course is approved
for General Education Health and Physical
Education.

WELLNESS/WALKING
3 sem. hrs.
This course teaches students basic concepts for
healthy living. Walking as an activity which helps
reach goals of wellness and fitness. This course
replaces all HPE general education courses from
HPE052-HPE110. This course is approved for
General Education Health and Physical Education.
HPE114
WELLNESS/TENNIS
3 sem. hrs.
This course provides content in the wellness areas, as
well as the opportunity to improve skill and fitness
through tennis. This course replaces all HPE general
education courses from HPE052-HPE110. This

WELLNESS/SOCIAL DANCING
3 sem. hrs.
This course teaches students basic concepts for
healthy living. The social dance portion uses dance as
an activity to accomplish wellness/fitness goals. This
course replaces all HPE general education courses

General Education Health and Physical Education.

LIFEGUARDING
3 sem. hrs.
This course meets the standards of the American Red
Cross for lifeguarding. It has the three distinct com-
ponents required for ARC lifeguards: first aid, CPR,
and responding to water emergencies. Successful
completion of each component can result in certifica-
tion by the American Red Cross. Prerequisite: swim-
ming skills pre-test by instructor.

WELLNESS/GOLF
3 sem. hrs.
This course provides students with a background of
scientific knowledge related to health education. It
also studies recent developments and controversial
issues in health information. Golf is presented as a
recreational lifetime activity. An additional fee will be
charged for this course. This course is approved for
General Education Health and Physical Education.

WELLNESS/CROSS COUNTRY
SKIING
3 sem. hrs.
This course provides students with a background of
scientific knowledge related to health education. It
also studies recent developments and controversial
issues in health information. Cross country skiing is
presented as a recreational lifetime activity. An addi-
tional fee will be charged for this course. This course
is approved for General Education Health and
Physical Education.
