Program Requirements
A grade average of "B" or better must have
been earned for the courses taken as part of
this program. No more than one "C" grade will
be accepted.
Candidates for certification as a supervisor
must receive a satisfactory recommendation
from the director of the school supervision
program.
Certification
To be recommended by Edinboro University
for a Pennsylvania certificate as a supervisor
in a specific subject matter area the following
requirements must be met:
1.
The applicant must possess a valid state
issued certificate in the content area for
which supervisory certification is being
requested.
2.
The applicant must provide verification
of at least five years of educational expe-
rience, three of which are in the area
requested.
3.
The applicant must have satisfactorily
completed the certification program ­
School Supervision offered by Edinboro
University.
4.
The applicant must provide the dean of
education with a completed application
form for a Pennsylvania certificate as a
school supervisor in a specific matter
area. This application may be obtained
from the office of the dean of education.
5.
The applicant must be recommended by
the director of the School Supervision
program.
6.
The applicant must be recommended by
the dean of education.
7.
The applicant must have met all the certi-
fication requirements in effect at the time
the application for certification is submit-
ted.
Student Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the individual com-
pleting requirements for certification in school
supervision to submit the form needed to
obtain the certification from the Common-
wealth of Pennsylvania to the director of the
School Administration programs as soon as
the certification requirements have been com-
pleted.
It is also important to note here that school
supervision certification requires taking and
meeting the cutoff score for the Educational
Leadership Administration and Supervision
(Supervisor) #440 examination. It is the
responsibility of the individual to contact the
Teaching and Learning Division (for test
application and test dates), Educational Test-
ing Service, P.O. Box 6051, Princeton, NJ
08541-6051 (phone 609-771-7395, fax 609-
530-0581 or 609-771-7906).
Note: An individual seeking certification in
school supervision in a state other than Penn-
sylvania is responsible for knowing the certifi-
cation requirements for that state and for the
proper scheduling of courses so that the
requirements are met.

This introductory course includes historical
review of the development of public and
school administration, studies of the settings
for and functions of public and school admin-
istration, theories of administration, and the
responsibility of the school principal to act as
an effective agent of change.

SCHOOL SUPERVISION

An introduction to the nature of instructional
supervision including the organizational
behavior systems and the evolvement of
instructional supervision. The processes of
supervision and the function of supervision are
included at both the school district and the
local school level. Dynamics of supervisory
behavior and systematic analyzing will be
introduced.
SCHA710 SEMINAR: EDUCATION
AND SOCIETY

This course analyzes the social structures and
interrelations of elementary, secondary, and
higher education institutions. It identifies and
analyzes school-community interrelationships
and processes by which educational objectives
are developed, implemented, and evaluated by
society.
